A Nine Step Tutorial

Step SeveGlazingn: Glazing

Glazing is nothing more than placing a sheet of clear glass or acrylic over your artwork.  Pretty simple, huh?  Perhaps the hardest part is cleaning it.

To clean glass try using the Framing4Yourself Glass Cleaning Kit which includes a 22 oz. spray bottle of Kinetronics Glass Cleaner, a superior glass cleaning product designed to clean the lenses of copy machines.  The cleaner contains an anti-static agent.  Just remember not to wipe the glass until it's dry (let the last bit evaporate) as this can cause increased static charge.  If you feel you must wipe it until it's dry, arm yourself with an anti-static brush to take out any static charge.

Acrylic (what many of you know as Plexiglass™) is a useful alternative to glass.  It comes covered with a plastic mask to protect it in shipping.  When you peel off the mask it's probably as clean as it's ever going to be, but it's carrying a high static charge.  Use 210 Plastic Cleaner with its powerful anti-static agent to reduce the charge.  In addition, it's smart to have an anti-static brush near to hand, to further reduce the static build up which can attract lint and dust.  Use a Wyp-All Towel to clean acrylic.  It's soft, supple quality won't scratch acrylic the way a plain paper towel can.  Framing4Yourself offers it in a variety of standard sizes.

Clean your acrylic glazing and place it over your matted and mounted artwork.  Then you're ready to fit it all into your frame - once it's put together.
