step 1
Begin by measuring the depth of the contents as they extend out of the back of the frame.
step 2
Based on your measurement determine which size RabbetSpace® you need.
step 3
Miter cut each stick to the proper length. It helps to use a wood cutting strip to support the acrylic RabbetSpace strip during sawing. You can find wood cutting strips at any home improvement center.
step 4
Place the first piece on the back of the frame. Using the special RabbetSpace® drill bit to drill the first hole near the corner.
step 5
Temporarily screw the first piece in near the corner. For best results when screwing, use a magnetic bit holder and a long reach X-drive Philips bit.
step 6
With the first piece temporarily attached at the corner, continue drilling the holes at intervals along the RabbetSpace® . For best results, use a bevel square to line up the RabbetSpace® with the frame as you drill the holes.
step 7
After drilling the holes, remove the four pieces and clean up the drilling dust.
step 8
Use black foam board or mat board as the final piece in the stack of contents.
step 9
Load the stack of contents into the frame. Fit the four sections of RabbetSpace so they overlap the back of the stack. Fit the miters at the corners and screw in the screws. The RabbetSpace strips come with enough screws for the job.
step 10
The final result is a neat, professional frame package that conceals the fact that the contents are too thick for the depth of the frame. Use RabbetSpace Rabbet Depth Extenders for high value frame jobs. A quicker, less polished solution for the same problem are offset clips.
